Self-publishing, Vanity Publishing and Private PublishingThere are many reasons for publishing your own work
If you are contemplating taking this step you might like to look at:
What, or who, is a publisher? It can be difficult to decide who is publishing a book and who is acting as an agent. The publisher is generally the person or company which takes the financial risk in making a book available. For example, if a book went on sale and sold no copies, the publisher is usually the person or company which loses all or most of the money. If you get paid anyway, you are likely to be a designer, printer, author or consultant of some kind (although authors will only get an advance payment and not earn royalties unless the book sells). One of the great advantages of Print on Demand for Self-Publishing is that it limits your risk to the set-up costs of your book. Individual copies are only printed when ordered. By contrast, traditional batch printing might well require you to finance an initial printing of, say, 2,000 copies, thus substantially increasing your risk. Vanity publishing If you are unwilling or unable to become a self-publisher, you could opt for vanity publishing. There are many companies which will 'publish' for you, but you should be wary and make sure you know exactly what you will be getting for your money. In particular, you may find this an expensive option and that the sales are disappointing. We are not in that business. WritersPrintshop provides a design, production and distribution service using Print on Demand technology. We help you get your book printed, so that you can focus on the demand, before and after publication. Compared to vanity publishing, you will also find that self-publishing through WritersPrintshop is a cost-effective way of getting your book published. Our pricing guidelines are transparent and show that the costs compare very favourably with the cost of vanity publishing. You also have the crucial benefit of being able to retain control over your book as the publisher. Private Publishing You may however, not be interested in Self-publishing because you do not see a market to which you can sell your book. In this case we can offer an adaptation of our Self-publishing service which we call Private Publishing. If you want to give your book away, rather selling it, this service may be perfect for you.
